With Valentine's Day only a few short weeks away, I'd like to confess something... Valentine's Day is not my favorite holiday and I dread it like (insert something unpleasant). But in effort to be a positive person and encourager, I'm changing the way I think about the holiday itself in attempt to throw out all previous expectations of the day and the pressures that surround it.
So, keep reading to learn about my FREE downloadable and printable "Valentine's Day" cards (or anytime of the year cards). PLUS, Find out what our family creed is and how it's causing us to think about LOVE every day of the year.
Our Family Creed
So, sometime last year, my husband came up with this saying and it's kind of become our family creed:
Choose to LOVE.
Choose to SERVE.
Choose to GIVE.
Choose to PRAISE.
I think all the bottom three fall under the top one. If you're choosing love, the others are forms of love in action. We're trying to teach our girls that and we even have a family celebration chart to which stickers are added when we catch each other choosing these things. Everyday we are doing our best with God's help to choose love.
Daily Choosing to Love
Homeschool Momma, May I share with you something with you that God is working on in my life? Homeschooling isn't easy for a lot of reasons, but one way it challenges us is that we have to choose daily to show love to each other since we have all this wonderful "togetherness" for 7 days a week!
When we feel like we need a break from one another, sometimes we have the opportunity to take one, but most of the time, we have to buckle down and find something good about those we live with 24/7.
Seeing the beauty in life helps us get around the ugly sometimes.
This is something I'm personally working on as a mom and as a wife and I fail at this daily!
After all, since none of us are perfect and we all have our "momma bear" days, we should give the same forgiveness and grace to our children and husbands we expect to have given to us. This is h a r d.
Sometimes we don't feel like showing love to our husband or our children. That's when we need to ask for God's help and choose to love.
So, I made these cute little cards which can be used for Valentine's Day, but I'd like to think you'd download and use them throughout the year whenever you need to "choose to love" in order to get over a hump.
Throughout 10 years of marriage, I've sometimes thought to leave little notes for my husband. They can appear anywhere: pockets, his sock drawer, his Jeep, etc, but they make him feel good, and they are a way to show love. So in making these little cards, I included one for you to give your hubby as well. You can print them over and again and use throughout the year to remind him how important he is to you. Some suggestions are:
-the ways and reasons you appreciate him
-how he makes you feel
-what you enjoy about him
-what you enjoy doing with him
-some things you respect about him * that's a doozy
-things you appreciate about his fathering skills
-what attracts you to him
A Note about my Cards
I made a set of cards with the homeschool family in mind. I chose the deer theme because it's very popular right now and for the play on words it lent itself to.
- I'm "Fawned" of You (for children to their friends)
- For my Little Dear (for children from Mom)
- To My Handsome Young Buck (for little boys from Mom)
-To My Handsome Buck (for hubby)
Without further delay, you can download my little cards here.
I hope you enjoy using these THROUGHOUT the year as a way to choose to love!
